Just found the board!! Great!! I thought i was the only one that loved this little truck. I am in need of a speedo head or at least find out if a gas model will work. Does anyone elses speedo go to 80+ in first gear? ;D

The Gas model won't work, needs a sensor for the Glow plug brain......

What about JUST the speedo head? I know the instrument cluster as a whole is not the same but the speedo assembly i am unsure of.

I donno if you can transplant the 7 mph sensor from the old diesel head to the gas head. The Diesel Speedo head has an extra wire going to it that turns off the after glow relay once your up to 7 mph.
What's wrong with yours?
The trip meters go bad at about 200,000 miles or less.
The Guy that bought daves (administrator of board) truck has parts for sale.

On a cool day the speedo needle will spin around to 85mph before i get out of first gear. When warm it doesnt like to move at all. The odometer and trip still work @ 214,632 miles ;D

Sounds like the a simple fix. The pointer is on a shaft that rest in the middle of a spinning magnet to which the trans cable plugs into. If the berrring there runs dry this will happen. Try a light oil (WD 40) inside the cup and magnet.
How It WORKS:
The pointer shaft has an aluminum cup that the magnet spin in side of. The cup acts like a shorted alternator winding, so the faster the magnet spins the more the pointer shaft winds up a small spiral spring on the pointer shaft. The spinning magnet also sends electrical signal to the glow plug brain.

Sorry for late reply, I forgot i posted. I will try the fix if/when I get time. I may be selling the trusty mazda if a deal comes tru on a 6.2L suburban. Sounds like the a simple fix.
