I just bought a 1984 Mazda diesel B2200 SE-5. I had been waiting around for about 8 months for any small diesel truck to cross my path and this was the one. I plan on converting it to a bio-diesel. I know nothing about this truck. I have had in the past a VW diesel rabbit and jetta.
So what do I have? What does the SE-5 designate? and where do find a "complete" shop manual?
Any leads on parts allocation would also be appreciated.
Thanks, Dino

Hi Dino, congrats on buying the B2200 diesel. That is a truck that ranks among the best in the "small diesel pickups" category. Well you have the last year that the diesel was available in a Mazda pickup. The diesel was available from 1982-1984. I have never seen a Mazda diesel that was an SE-5. But in the case of your 1984 Mazda pickup you have a special model and makes it even rarer on top of it being diesel. The best bet for a factory Mazda B2200 workshop manual is to look on EbayMotors. I have seen 82, 83, and 84 model year manuals up for auction many times and they all cover the diesel engine. How many miles does your Mazda have and do you have any pictures? Good luck with it and it should be one reliable vehicle.

Some tech pics here. community.webshots.com/user/dieseldavoIn Daves rides.......... If it has more than 150,000 miles you will need a water pump if it hasn't all ready got one. Most go at 100,000. The SE had spoked wheels and some had bucket seats and came with a rear bumper stock! Never saw a diesel one. Someone may have put a the drive train in a gas body. Only way to check is to see if your drive shaft has a center berring (2 piece).... Only the diesels had um!

Asfar as I know the diesels never came in SE-5 trim ever. They were just the stripped ones or the deluxe Sundowners. I converted a 1984 B2000 SE-5 to diesel several years ago. It only had 54,000 miles and blew a head gasket but the truck was like new! It was metallic black with the white SE-5 stripes and spoke wheels and looked sharp when it was done. I also took some "Diesel" vinyl decals and incorporated them into the stripes on the front fenders, very cool looking diesel ride! Dino you dont happen to live in CT do you? Thats where I am and where I sold it. If the Vin# starts with JM2UD its diesel but JM2UF is a gas model and yours may be a conversion. The trouble I had was the nipple heads at Mazda made the tunnel opening smaller on the firewall on the gas model! The top 2 trans bolts were right in front of the lower opening so the engine and trans would have to be pulled as a pair. Took me 3 weeks to swap over. John.

Mazdadieselsrule, I do live in Connecticut! I must have your old truck. LOL I bought it in Danbury. The VIN starts with JM2UC. Did you also paste Lee Partyka emblems on it.??
I noticed that the Engine and tranny were tight in the tunnel when I went to pull the starter. The top bolt can't be pulled back to lift the starter out. I had to pull out the air intake and fuel injector lines to get the starters bolt hole off the bolt. The other problem I experienced was that the radiator is very close to the fan and taking it out was a real B%$#! I'm going to try and move it forward a bit to increase the clearance. I know so little about Mazdas that I never thought of this truck having been a conversion. It seems to run well and has 97000 miles on it. It was sold to the previous owner at 80000 miles and he had it since 1999. At least that's the info I get off the title.
I live in Colchester, Connecticut. Small world.
My brother in law is going to help me convert this to a veg oil burner. He has converted a jetta and a passat with kits from a company out of Mass. He's hooking me up with his spare parts and I have already two oil sources. One in town and another in Old Saybrook.

Dino it sounds like my truck alright! Wow I cant believe it. When I sold it the body was rust free all around. How is it now? I thought the vin# was differant, maybe JM2UF is 1983 gas. The truck was sold at Lee Partyka Chevy/Mazda new here in town. It was owned by a man in Branford and was traded in at Bob Thomas Ford on a new vehicle and was wholesaled to a used car dealer 2 blocks from me. That motor was one I had imported from Japan and I believe it may be a 3.0 liter version of the S2 because it ran better and had more power than all my others. Its also a late 80's or early 90's engine I was told. It had a cast iron intake manifold and no altitude compensator on the injector pump so who knows what vehicle it came out of over there. I live in New Haven and am not far away. I would like to stop by some weekend and see it again if I may. Feel free to email me at DEEZLJOHN@aol.com and I can email pix of my 1984 B2200. Good luck with the truck,it served me well. John.

BTW thats not the first engine I installed in there. The first one was from a brown 1983 B2200 (hence the brown brackets on the fuel filter housing, coolant tank, etc) that was given to me by a friend with over 300,000 miles on it and it ran perfect. The last 150,000 were with no 5th gear screaming flat out on the highway. One very cold winter day I started it and warmed it up,drove 1 mile in town and started heading home as it just didnt sound right. I stopped at the parts store 1 block away and let it idle outside for 10 min and when I came out it was skipping like crazy. I drove it home and as I was driving down my street it locked up! Go to find out a bearing had spun because the low oil pressure switch went bad and the light never came on. In the very cold weather the oil light flickers on until the oil starts flowwing. I had the spare engine so installed it and kept running the truck. The odd thing about that junk engine was when I pulled it down the cylinders were perfect and still had a cross hatch in them!! Talk about durable.
