Hi, I just joined and have read a few posts. I think I already know Jason from private conversations we've had. I own 2 Mazda B2200 diesel 5-speed long-bed trucks and one Ford Ranger 4-speed with the same engine. I'm pleased to find this group after 18 years of owning my first which I still own.
I'll contribute some observations and opinions but today I just wanted to say Hi and thanks for having formed this group.
As though you didn't already have the name John in use here, I'm another. LoveLearn

John, what state do you live in? How many miles are on both of your Mazda B2200 diesel trucks? They are great trucks from what I have learned so far, but still have not driven one or owned one.

Lovelearn: I am the present owner of a 1982 Mazda B-2200 with just over 245,000miles on it. It has a been a great truck, but is down right now as I am trying to find a Glow Plug relay for it. Any help you can give to me would be appreciated.

I live in the southern tip of South Dakota. My first B2200, an '83, I've had since it was 4 years old. Without checking the odometer I think it has about 270 thousand miles on it. The second is an '82 which owned by a gentleman who barely drove it in South Caroline, then gave it to his grandson in Michagan who promptly discovered that it didn't have tire shreading torque and offered it for sale for $900!!!! Incredible deal. I found it in a newspaper tracking classified ad system I use with seach strings, immediately locked it up, then drove there with tow dolly. The last is an '83 Ford Ranger, which sadly has only 4-speed rather than 5-speed like the Mazdas. It was a trade-in at a new car dealership and was sold with the serpentine belt off and a locked up idler pully due to failed bearings. One of Ford's NOT BETTER ideas, a failing to which Mazdas are not subject. A bone yard search of other Ford products revealed a used idler that I adapted onto the diesel Ranger. Cost $10 to restore operation.
I bought some used glow plugs form someone parting out another model Ford equipped diesel. They had a different part number but appeared identical so I tried them and they worked just fine. Used glow plugs are like used filament type light bulbs. Finite service life but so easily swapped on these engines that I thought it was worth trying. I keep extras in glove box.
I'm unimpressed with OEM glow plug relays in general. I have some Ford PowerStrokes too and they have joke-quality glow plug relays which are best replaced when they first fail with higher current rated 12V DC relays. That topic has been covered repeatedly in DiseelStop.com forums.
I don't have any unusual sources for strater or strater drive components. Some of the better rebuilding services are happy to go through starters or alternators that sell in such low volume that they don't list them in their standard rebuild products. Bearings and high amperage contact points are their most commonly failing components. The starter with over 260K miles on it has never been pulled, but the contact points have developed some high resistance points so sometimes I had to hit the starter switch more than once before it passed enough current to spin the starter motor. Sounds like a home restoration project to me.
Sorry for the delay in responding but I've been busy with other things.
All the best to you, John

might check the size of the fittings sealing rings. they may be copper or aluminum. brake fittings on disk brakes use similar sealing rings. you may be able to use them as replacement seals. has anyone found any good sources for engine parts or injection pump settings/ injectors my starter job turned out to be a major pain. the ring gear is wiped. found a used one. would like to know if there is any sources for a new one if this one isn't that great. thanks i found glow plugs at a good price at www.lmctruck.com if not on thier web site, get them to send a catalog.
