Hi everybody, I wanted to ask a question about the 2.2 liter diesel engine in the 82-84 Mazda B2200 pickup. For example, the 5.9 liter Cummins diesel engine in the 94-02 Dodge pickups is identified as a 6BT Cummins engine. My question is what is the engine number for the 2.2 liter diesel in the 82-84 Mazda B2200 pickup. Thanks and I appreciate any info.

I believe the engine number is the S2, but am not 100% sure. If you were to have a Mazda B2200 workshop manual for the 82, 83, or 84 then I know it would tell you in there. If you search on EbayMotors right now you will see rod bearings for a Mazda B2200 diesel and in the title "S2" is written. This makes me to think that the engine number truly is the S2.

Yes the engine is called the S2 by Mazda. Its cast in the block over near the dipstick tube. Many years ago I saw an articled that Mazda called that engine the S2 "elf" diesel. They also made a 3.0liter version later. John.
