I found my water leak. It was through the wall of the water pump hose. I'm replacing it now. The part that came off is a 3.5" long piece of Dayco Silver Label hose part number 77125. This is exactly what the Dayco website says it should be. The "125" stands for 1.25 inches diameter.
I can't find a new part though. None of the stores list this part (except partsamerica.com which lists Gates part 24020 for $28 (but that can't be right at that price)). None of the stores carry anything bigger than 3/4" heater hose in bulk. I'll have to broaden my search to places I've never been before.
I may try to find some Dayco 77113 (1 1/8" diameter) because the pipes that are connected are about 1 3/16" in OD. I may also try to find Dayco 78113 which would be the same thing except made of silicone rubber (SBR?) which is supposedly superior.
I had to cut this part out. Of the 3.5 inches, approx 1.25" was on the water pump, 1.25" was on the head, and 1" was across the gap. So I couldn't slide it. It should prove challenging to get cram a 3" piece back into this gap and get the hose clamps on. The worst scenario would involve removing the water pump.
The two connection points for this hose are in the same direction but are not aligned (i.e. the ends are not concentric but the axes are parallel). So it's pretty much a straight run with just a little jog in the middle.
After installation, I may install a third hose clamp in the middle to prevent swelling and subsequent delamination of the rubber layers that caused my failure.
Does anybody know of part numbers for similar hose material from a company other than Dayco?
In my searching, I may compile a list of the other hoses and part numbers.
The Dayco website says you need 2 feet of 5/8" heater hose for this engine. Also, the molded lower radiator hose is Dayco 70369 (http://www.partsamerica.com/product_images/img/DAY/70369.jpg). Apparently the upper hose is just supposed to be replaced with a corrugated flex hose.
