I have 3 of these trucks and know that the 1982 has a different pump than the 1984. My 82 will leave a cloud that will stop traffic when floored but the 84s arn't as bad. I think the springs inside the pumps are stronger in the older trucks since they are seem to take off better dispite the smoke. Going down the road at 60 mph they are about the same. Of course altitude has a lot to do with smoke and power. At 3000 feet i think we're down to about 42 HP @ 4800 rpm
