I have the factory shop manual if anyone need a scan. Can post to alt.binaries.pictures.autos
Hey; if your sick of the oil spots on the driveway try a bigger blow-by pipe fitting on the rocker box. The stock hole is smaller than a lawn mower engine. Only 0.2"! I drilled my 2 truck out to 7/16" and had a 3/4 aluminum pipe (Lawn chair tube) welded on. 3 feet of 3/4 heater hose and a 3/4 plastic elbow and a lot less leaks.

What a coincedence! I was looking at alt.binaries.pictures.autos when I read this post. Where did the picture of the injection pump come from? And did you put the "HONK" note on it? I have the 1982-1983 "Workshop Manual". So I probably don't need anything unless you have better ones. Or perhaps COLOR! Here's an idea: just copy the whole thing and post a PDF of it!

Hey Dave:
What do you need a scan of? The Book has a general easy to read one page of wires and a couple fold out huge pages with all the connectors ect.
Diesel Davo
Oh BTW, The Shutter vacuum control module hooks to the same wire as the Fuel cut solenoid on the pump.
I never wever wanted to do open heart on my two trucks eather but no mechanic in NH would touch it! So me in a wheelchair and the wife pop the top off to change the drippy throttle shaft O-Ring. Second time took us 5 hours. The trick is to buy another metric nut and tighten it to the lock nut on the calibration screw so that it dosn't move when you take it out. Tin cover on calibration screw just pop off with a screw driver.

ahhh that clears a few things up. so the flapper also helps and closes air into the intake whent he key is turned off. (kinda a backup feature) if the solnoid to in the injector pump isn't upto the job? i took a closer looked at what the fast idle lever does. theres a seperate shaft going into the injector, so this in itself kinda acts as a choke feature....
i also notice with two working glow plugs and a air filter that (should be replaced soon) causes alot of black soot when the engine first starts up (cold start) with a bit of shaking for the first 2 seconds... I presume lack of air will cause alot of black soot? I notice more of it on the ground where its parked.

Try this to piss off traffic or kill bugs....get going about 30 and turn the key off for a second then back on. The flapper will close and the engine will keep it sucked closed but the pump will start shooting in fuel anyways. The results is a white cloud of unburnt #2 porring out the pipe with the engine shaking like hell.

It's funny you should mention this trick.
My bus driver in 9th grade kept the pedal (foot feed?) to the floor like all bus drivers did. However, whenever he did have it floored, he would drive hunched over with the right hand on the engine control switch. He would constantly turn off the switch. He would leave it on for one second and turn it off for half second (a very rapid cycle). I always wondered how this would help. Back then I didn't really understand the diesel engine but it still seemed to work. And I figured he wouldn't go to all this trouble for no reason. He did this mainly to get more top end speed. I never talked to him, I just observed.
So, was it really doing any good?
