Hello all, The diesel is now on its way into another truck - an 84 gas ranger. The gas came out easily enough. Here's a couple of pictures of where the project rests. Putting these in place was an absolute pain. I'd hoped to have also dropped the tank and had the diesel sending unit installed in the time it took. Worth noting in the first photo - the diesel slave cylinder replaces the gas with the simple pull of a pin, and I don't anticipate any length issue. I can't recall what oil is used in the tranny - is it 80w90 gear oil? And is a little bit of gas mixed with the diesel going to present significant risk? Thanks!

In cold climates it is not uncommon to add a small amount of gas to make cold starting easier. I am not sure what is considered a safe limit but a small amount left in the tank shouldn't be a problem

I guess I should have mentioned that I had to do the same mount conversion to put the diesel in my 88 ranger and even having to drill new holes it didn't seem that hard to me.

I might have just been having a bad time gradyc. Any idea about the trans oil? I seem no longer to have the diesel user's manual for the diesel.

I don't remember off hand what the trannys use. The ford trannys for the gas engine used ATF but I am not sure about the mazda tranny that the diesels had. I think I have a book somewhere that tells. I will try to find it. When in doubt 90 W will lube them but they might be a little slower shifting if they were designed for tranny fluid.

Slow shifting to go with the slow acceleration. Temps are quite low hereabouts. It would be interesting to know what amounts of gas would be o.k. to ease with starting.
It would also be interesting to know if a larger tank from an extended cab (19gal) could be crammed into a reg cab long box ranger.
