Well the title says it all. I'm in need of piston rings and can't seem to find them at any local auto parts store ( kinda figured ) Can you still buy them? and where if you can? The machine shop says they might need it to be a bare block before they'll touch it.. they're gonna look at it next week..does anyone know if you can modify the sump pump for more oil pressure? It'd be nice to have a good 30 - 50 psi even with oil coolers for the pistons. don't want to starve anything for oil... Any and all info is appreciated!

I remember reading thru the archives and finding an engine kit i.e. bearings, rings, etc. that someone bought, I don't recall if it was stateside or in Australia and for the life of me I can't find the thread again, but apparently they are available.

If I can't find a set of rings could I just hone the block and stick with the old rings? I'd hate to do it.. but the engine was rebuilt about 13,000 miles ago.

You could, I suppose. But personally I wouldn't re-use them, unless that was my only option. I recall seeing that same thread that Rangerguy referred to, maybe someone will chime in with the actual source for the rings, I'd hate to see you have to tear your motor down a second time over $40 in rings. They're out there, just be patient and someone will list a source, this is a very slow moving forum but the guys here know their stuff. Good luck.

I got rings and gaskets from Internal Engine Parts Group and bearings from Northern Auto Parts. Gaskets are available from several other sources as well.

Yes it'd be quite sad to do that.. and a waste of time. Yeah, at least there is a forum specifically about these engines and I have learned a lot by reading through quite a few threads! Helps out and takes the guessing game out of things!

Parts are readily available from other countries: UK, Australia. I've sourced parts from all over. Australia has gobs of these engines still running about. FYI, the rings for the S2 and XA engines are the same. I bought 8 sets of rings from a fellow in the UK a couple of years ago. He still has some rings left and lists them on Ebay. Item #150981411592. It's going to cost you about $130 by the time it's all said and done, but well worth it. You'll have nothing but heartache if you reuse those old rings.
