I know this subject has been discussed in the past but can't find the threads. I have an 84 b2200 diesel with a rotted cab and been looking for another. Will a gas cab work? will I have to make mods? I heard that the trans tunnel is smaller on the gas but not confirmed. Any thoughts? Why is the site saying I,m a new member? I have been around for a few years and even posted threads.

I am not sure about the cab change since I have a Ranger but as for the new member status, it is tied to the number of posts you have made. As you post more your member status changes.

It wouldn't make since to make a different cab, just for the Diesel engine / transmission. I'd take some measurements. Compare the cabs and get started. Make sure your dash / gauges are the same size / shape as the donner cabs. The seats, trim, everything should interchange if the replacement cab is from the same year model.

The cabs are considerably different, unfortunately. Under the hood, the inner fenders have differences. These differences are for things like the air filter assembly and coolant bottle mounting--different between gas and diesel trucks. Then, the biggest problem is the transmission tunnel, substantially bigger for the diesel bellhousing. It is bigger where the tunnel meets the firewall, but then the difference extends also partially down the length of the tunnel. I've heard of people going after the gas tunnel with a sledgehammer (!), but I did something a little different. I cut out a large portion of the gas truck's firewall and some of its transmission tunnel. I then installed an extremely large "patch panel" from the diesel truck (comprised of the firewall and trans. tunnel, overlapping each by a about an inch. Basically, you want the two to transition where the surfaces are common.
It's a hell of a lot of work, BTW, so be prepared. Another challenge is the wiring harness. In order to leave the diesel harness intact, you have to fish all of it back into the cab, before removing the cab. Then fish it all out of the new cab. Also, the pedal assemblies are different, and I'm probably forgetting several other differences.

Well I guess using a gas cab is out. So I now have to decide, find another cab, part it out, or sell the whole thing. Anybody have an idea what it may be worth? Very good mechanicaly, still functional truck, cab rusting at windshield and at floor mounts. . (If I part it I.m keeping the engine and trans).

Us guys who have these trucks are always looking for parts. A good body man can fix your rust.

Or you could buy my truck for 500.00 and replace the water pump and you would have a good body, good motor, that rides good, drives good, runs good, with a lot of good parts to sell or use. Call me.3188716168.
