Has anyone ever seen one before? I never have. It doesn't look factory but more so like a dealer add-on. Or maybe just added by the owner?

Haha it's funny you mentioned that, I saw this truck on ebay and wondered the very same thing! I guess you could message the owner and ask him. To me it looks like one of those metallic badges with an adhesive backing. As for who put it there, the owner or the dealer I dunno.....

It's a add on from owner. I bought the same badges off eBay. There just a hard rubber/plastic with adhesive backing. Here is my truck with them. I put them on the lower doors like the 99 to 07 powerstrokes.

Apparently it won't let me load a picture, keeps telling me the file size is too large.

What's the factual story behind the whole Mazda/Perkins thing....my understanding is the 2.2 is a Perkins engine but Mazda paid a licensing fee to Perkins so they could install the engines in the B2200's and Ranger's. Were these complete engines from the Perkins factory ready to be dropped in the trucks by Mazda, or did Mazda actually assemble the engines too?

The engines were manufactured by Mazda. There would be no need for license fees if they were made by Perkins because they would already make money from building the engines.

So if I'm correct it's a perkins design, but mazda casted and assembled the engines?

That's what I'm trying to discern too. I was under the impression this is a Perkins engine through and through... designed, cast, and assembled by Perkins. But apparently Mazda assembled them, but did they have any more involvement than just assembly? What was the licensing fee paid to Perkins for? I'm still confused about all the details.....

Licensing fees are like paying an architect to design a house for you. They don,t build it but get paid for the design.
